The Future of Tai Chi

Find a Class | What we teachSeminars | The History of Tai Chi | The Future of Tai Chi

Master Hine was encouraged by his teachers never to blindly accept the teachings of Tai Chi but, to understand them thoroughly and to take them further. This has become the foundation for senior students at Hine Tai Chi Schools.

All the techniques of Tai Chi have to be understood thoroughly, both from a traditional point of view and of physical dynamics. Body alignment and posture, when performed correctly, allow the student of Tai Chi to release the flow of energy, relax on a deeper level and permit the mind to be at ease. If you do not understand Tai Chi from the inside, you can never receive it's full potential.

The procedure is preserved in the Form, Push Hands, Weapons, Chi Kung and Self Defence with the same exactness. Allowing students to understand and experience the potential of the art the mind has to be approached in the same way.

The use of correct technique, experiencing the effect of the exercises and applying them in everyday life. Results are the key. By experiencing the benefits first hand, encourages students to greater efforts, understanding and progress. Rather than talking about the best of the great masters we can be emulating them and honour their great work. All senior students are expected to research the art, both mentally and physically.

By asking the questions, does this technique work? How well does it work? Is there a better way of doing it? Only by applying a critical analysis will the art move forward and progress as our teachers would hope. Learn from the East, learn from our past, is the motto, our past teaches us that research and innovation are the things which moves us onward and upward. Based on a through understanding of the principles you are using.

Hine Tai Chi Schools continually reviews the latest research in medicine, science, sport, psychology and Tai Chi and martial arts training from around the world. We then see if any of the latest techniques / theories can be applied to the teaching improvement of traditional Tai Chi. Usually it cannot and the traditional tried and tested ways will out yet again. But we have to keep looking and striving to improve what we have in order not to stagnate.

We can only paraphrase the inimitable Lau Tsu :~ 'That which stands still dies'.
